Dental Check up-Oral Cancer Screening

Oral Cancer Screening is the first procedures performed for Dental Check-Ups, whether it be a new patient to the office or a continuing care patient coming in for their periodic check up. The purpose is to diagnose any and all conditions that a patient presents with. Oral cancer screenings are performed during each clinical evaluation to check for any possible signs of cancer. If there is any suspicious growth or abnormality detected, a special light using the Velscope machine is used to illuminate the specified area. This light is completely harmless and does not subject the patient to any form of radiation exposure. It is a purely diagnostic tool used for dental check up for the benefit of the patient. In order to properly diagnose each patient’s condition(s) radiographs (x-rays) of the mouth are taken during oral cancer examinations.
